Benefit: The new layout, sustainable finishes and central heating system revitalized this home and connect views to the water, docks, and sailboats that are beloved by the owners.

Site: A low bank waterfront property facing south to Blakely Harbor in Puget Sound.

Program: A significant interior remodel on a existing waterfront home originally designed by Island Architect James Cutler. The remodel includes the main entry, great room, dining room, kitchen and laundry.

Sustainable Solutions: As with many homes in the Pacific Northwest, this house is approached through a canopy of cedars leading to a covered entry patio and the light-filled great room beyond. The main entrance is the central circulation spine of the building and joins the private master suite to the west with the open kitchen, dining and living rooms to the east. The great room features a glass wall with views toward Puget Sound, timber trusses, a stone fireplace and custom cherry cabinetry and shogi screens in the design of the casework in the entry, great room and kitchen. Bluestone countertops reflect the azure color of the sunlight on the water.
